“…portraits of Audrey Hepburn, James Dean, Liz Taylor, P. Newman, R. Redford, Marylin and S. Loren. The portraits are close-ups, moments frozen for eternity. They are not en-face representations, they rather look like snapshots aiming at one part of the face only, leaving half of it in the shadows. Just one eye of the portrayed person is shown and emphasized. Being confronted with the eye, the viewer feels strongly involved through this eye-contact. The intensity of this eye-contact removes the distance to the portrayed person, brings us closer to him or her. Appearing partly photographic, partly expressionistic, the pictorial representation of actors rises into Action Painting in portraits of the painters….”
